For those of you who like this sort of thing, Google ROAD SIDE AMERICA to discover what your state offers as sites. Minnesotans know about Paul Bunyan in Bemidji, Akeley, and Brainerd; the Kensington Runestone in Alexandria, and the black ducks in Black Duck. Did you know about St. Urho the grasshopper chaser in Menagha, or the Iron Man at Chisholm, or Frazee's claim of fame with its giant turkey?

ROADSIDE AMERICA does not focus on living items. Although Jamestown, North Dakota hosts the worlds largest buffalo, what one really needs to see in Jamestown is the albino buffaloes.

In the Dycke Museum, on the campus of the University of Kansas, Commanche, the sole survivor of the Battle of Little Big Horn stands, glass cased, for all of us to view. Commanche was injured in the battle and taken to Fort Riley where he lived out his years. When he died, his body was shipped to Lawrence were the best taxidermist in the state worked for the university. The soldiers did not pay the bill for the work; Commanche became a permanent part of the museum. Except for a stint at the World's Fair in 1893, he has remained at Lawrence.

Old Trunks wonders what marvels you have seen and how far you drove out of your way to see it. It wonders if you road tripped for a day to see the turkey in Frazee, the loon at Vergas, the pelican at Pelican Rapids, or the muskie at Nevis. Obviously it is my sort of thing.
