TIDBITS

Old Trunks had written about the sport of curling in Thief RIver Falls, not knowing when it had begun. I found an article dated January 11, 1956 which says:

Added to the winter sports attractions in Thief River Falls this year will be the ancient Scottish game of curling. Spear headed by member of the local 40&8, a league is in the making with an organizational meeting set for Thursday at 6:30 o'clock in the Elks lodge rooms.

Two curling sheets have been installed in the livestock building at the fairgrounds. Membership is $5 per person.

Anyone interested in curling who has not been contacted is urged to be at the rinks on Sunday, at which time some of the hold hands will demonstrate the game and everyone who wishes to try his hand at curling will be allowed to do so with all equipment available.

Two of the teams which will be represented in the new league took to the ice Tuesday night in a match with the Pharmacy turning back the challenge of Northern TV 6-5.

Bundy skipped the winners, other members of which were Ray Ranta, Dr. EL Gilbert, and Ken Roche, Vern Evenson was the skip for the TV boys, who had Dr. MD Starkow, Norm Peterson, and Merle Lindbergh curling for them.

Janice Helgenset was Aquacade Queen in August of 1956

At Christmas in 1955, Knox School had a Christmas pageant. Do you remember these people?

Faye Fuller was Mary

In the fourth scene children dressed representing all nations will come and worship the Child. Various grades will sing carols. The program will close with a chorus of fifth and sixth grade pupils.

In 1956, Girl Scout Court of Awards was held once a year. It was done in the spring and every Scout in Thief River Falls gathered together in the auditorium.
