CAT VAC

March 10, 1966
St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Sam the cat tangled with a vacuum cleaner today and came out on the tail end of things.

Sam was asleep under the davenport in his home, the George Murphy residence, while Terry Murphy 18, did house work while her mother was away.

“I pulled the vacuum cleaner out from under the davenport and Sam was with it.” Said Terry. His tail had wound up in the rollers of the upright appliance.

Terry sent her brother, Patrick, 8 for help from the neighbors. None were at home so she called police. Office Arthur Boelz arrived in a hurry. It took him about 15 minutes to free Sam who kept his claws sheathed and remained reasonably calm. Apparently not hurt, he was reported resting comfortably as can be expected.

Said Officer Marlin Henz was manning the police switchboard when Terry’s call came in: I knew right away it was no prank call. In 12 years I’ve never heard anything like that cat screaming over the line.
