Benhard and Julia Ranum, Part 2

Benhard and Julia (Opseth) Ranum

on June 24, 1911 Benhard Ranum was married to Julia Opseth, daughter of Andrew and Hannah Opseth who lived at Rosewood. They lived with her folks about a year and then took a homestead in the Mud Lake area and lived there three years, but did not "prove" up. They sold their rights to Charlie Nelson, the road master on the Wheat Line of the Soo Railroad.

They moved back to New Solum Township and built a house on Section 10, the Strip, about a mile southeast of Rosewood where they lived 28 years. Mr. Ranum continued to do carpenter work. He remembers burning limestone near the Louis Halvorson place to make lime for white washing.

In 1948 Mr. and Mrs. Ranum retired to Thief River Falls but Mr. Ranum still wanted to build houses and so built nine in Thief River Falls after he was 70 years old.

I scrapbooked a copy of this photograph and it was published in an article I wrote on scrapbooking heritage photographs. I should see if I can find a copy of it and send it to you.
