August 10, Bird's Eye View of Lincoln

August 10

This image came from the 1962 Prowler, which is the name of the yearbook and mascot for the Thief River Falls, MN high school.

We have discussed Lincoln and Washington Schools before. The question was: Just how do these schools, Old Lincoln/Washington and New Lincoln connect to the new additions. Anyone who attended Lincoln in 1962 knows we went from granite floors up a flight of wooden stairs to a level of creaky floors. In the discussion, we weren't truly sure how it connected although we knew in connected near the last classroom on the north side of a granite floor addition and the rest of the addition towards the gym, (west) was lockers. If we went UP the stairs we were near the principal's office, if we went downstairs, if I remember correctly, we were near the old gym where we danced the noon hour away.

This aerial view solves the mystery.

Look at the picture again. Try to find a location i.e. the upper left corner of the gym. Draw an imaginary line from that corner directly into the building shaped like an upside "L". That is school built in 1911. Continue to the next building, from the upper left corner of the "L" shaped building and you are now looking at the roof of old Lincoln or later Washington grade school.
The flat top building behind and to the left side of Washington is the vocational school.

I am hopeful this helps you visualize the puzzle.
