Poor and primitive as their lives may have been on the prairie with so many children in the house, they made do and were, for the most part, surrounded by neighbors in the same situation. DREAMS Ancestors

Old Trunks picked this date, 26 August, as a day to talk about ancestors in our dreams and what they may mean because one of my grandmother's was born on this day in 1901. Although Mae wasn't my lineage grandmother, she was, for all practical purposes, a caring soul who was always there with her sweet, precious way of making things work.

When we are children, we do not judge adults on how intelligent they are. We are not drawn to them because of an IQ, rather because they have a type of soul that allows us to walk in and out of them without doors shutting. They are safety zones.

It is a day she should be toasted with her own depression glass and glads should be on the dining room table in memory of her. She worked hard and nursed her husband Phil for nine long years as a bed bound husband. While he napped, she sat in the dining room near the window and made doll clothes out of fine thread wearing his glasses because she could not afford her own.

What do we learn about dreaming of ancestors?

Until my sweet Thomas, I did regress. When I was frightened my mantra was grandma's lap. I would focus on the creak of the rocker as I sat in her lap as well as the aroma of baking bread and her humming. It seems odd that, after all those years, the rocker is silent all because I have love and protection in TCJ.

It's a good dream, nevertheless.

Mother said she never had a dream in her whole life. Maybe it was just her way of not saying or.....maybe she didn't have enough of the right nutrients to allow her to remember.

We know that sleep must have the REM cycle to rest and heal our bodies. We also know that during this time, we dream.

Dreams is defined in Webster's Dictionary as a "sequence of sensations, images, thoughts, etc., passing through a sleeping person's mind" . Dreams have been a topic of study dating back to 4000 B.C. One may say that dreams have been around as long as the first civilization came to be and are just a normal part of human existence.

In our dreams, we can go anywhere, we can be anybody, and we can do anything. When we dream, we are like passengers on a moving train, unable to control our actions and choose surroundings. We let our mind take over. Sometimes, dreams can be understood in the the context of repressed thoughts. Dreaming serves as an outlet for those thoughts and impulses we repress during the day. When we go to sleep at night and slip into our dream state, we feel liberated and behave and act in a manner that we do not allow ourselves in our waking life.

Visions and ideas can come from your dreams. Authors, screenwriters and poets turn to their dreams for stories. Artists and musicians explore dreams for their inspiration. Dreams can help us find solutions to our daily problems and see things from a different perspective.

Not remembering? Beef up your vitamin B!

When someone asked me how I was, I told them I must be good, I am dreaming of butterflies!

To see a butterfly in your dream, denotes your need to settle down. Butterflies signify creativity, romance, joy and spirituality. You may be experiencing a transformation into a new way of thinking. Or you may be undergoing a transitional phase.

To see a beautiful colorful butterfly in your dream, denotes the positive impression you will make at a future social gathering.

To catch or kill a butterfly, suggests that you are being too superficial.
To dream that you are mounting a butterfly on frame, symbolizes sexual oppression.

Well, now that is true for all of us, isn't it?

Old Trunks dreamed about a little white, long haired dog recently. Tom had trained the dog not to bark nor to alert to danger/other. The dog slept in bed with us, under the covers. I felt the dog raise his head. I woke, in my dream to tell Tom something was amiss. Tom didn't answer and the warm spot where the little dog lay next to me left.

To see a dog in your dream, indicate a skill that you have ignored or forgotten, but needs to be activated. Alternatively, dogs may symbolize intuition, loyalty, generosity, protection, and fidelity. Your own values and intentions will enable you to go forward in the world and succeed.

If the dog is vicious and/or growling, then it signifies some inner conflict within yourself. It may indicate betrayal and untrustworthiness. If the dog is dead or dying, then it indicates a loss of a good friend. Alternatively, it represents a deterioration of your instincts.

To dream that a dog bites you on the leg, suggests that you have lost your ability to balance aspects of your life. You may be hesitant in approaching a new situation or have no desire to move forward with your goals. Alternatively, it symbolizes disloyalty.

To see a happily barking dog in your dream, symbolizes pleasures and much social activity. If the dog is barking ferociously, then it represents your habit of making demands on people and controlling situations around you. It could also mean unfriendly companions.

To dream that you are buying a dog, indicates your tendency to buy your friends or buy compliments/favors. Alternatively, it suggest a need for you to find companionship.

To dream that you are dressing up your dog, signifies your attempts to cover up your own character flaws and habits.

Also consider the notions associated with the word dog, such as loyalty ("man's best friend") and to be "treated like a dog".

Now that may be all true and wise but remember the dream, to me, represented something was amiss.

Was it a prophetic dreams, also referred to as precognitive or psychic dreams, are dreams that seemingly foretell the future. One rational theory to explain this phenomenon is that your dreaming mind is able to piece together bits of information and observation that you may normally overlook or that you do not seriously consider. In other words, your unconscious mind knows what is coming before you consciously piece together the same information.

Was it a psychic dream telling me Tom was going to be ill? Go figure.

Daddy had a dream most of his life. He was running away from a bull that was chasing him and would get under the fence in just a nick of time. He had it as a kid and even years later, still dreamed it.

According to the dream world:

To see a bull in your dream, symbolizes stubbornness, strong will, strength, and power. The dream may be telling you that it is time to take a stand and be more assertive. Alternatively, the bull indicates a rich, prosperous, and abundant life. Consider also the metaphor, "being bull-headed". Maybe you need to show a little compromise in a situation. Or it could be a pun on something that is "bull", as in crap or worthless.

Yet as you remember he was running away from the bull. Do we determine that he was running away from power?

To dream that you are running alone, signifies that you will advance to a higher position and surpass your friends in the race for wealth. Alternatively, you may be running from some situation or from temptation. Or it may also mean that you need to hurry up in making a decision.

Consider the distance or gap between you and your pursuer. This indicates your closeness to the issue. If the pursuer is gaining on you, then it suggests that the problem is not going to go away. The problem will surround you until you confront and address it. However, if you are able to widen the gap between your pursuer, then the problem is becoming less and less of an issue. You are able to successful distance yourself from the problem. In essence, the problem is fading away.

Interesting theory, isn't it?

INTRODUCTION Dreams and such

My sweet Thomas says I laugh in my sleep. I do remember my dreams in the morning because I wake up when I hear the laughter. Since we have a YOU MAY DISTURB policy, I will tell him what the dream was about.

Old Trunks doesn't know your stand on interrupting dreams, and quite frankly, neither do I. I have had some deja vu dreams in my life, first in a dream and then in an awake state. I am not clairvoyant however, I have had clairvoyant happenings.

I have not had my palm read, nor have I been involved in trying to raise the dead. I do, however, hear the sound of my parents voices.

To many, I have said, "Have a five star day" based on the horoscopes, which I toy with now and then but do not practice. If the seventh moon is in the twelfth rotation and Mercury collides with Mars, I am not educated in the practice enough to know that that means.

My tarot card reading on the web are always favorable. Whether it is based on numbers or cards I select from the deck.

I do follow Feng Shui because I like balance. I do have wind chimes in the entry, I put down the toilet lid, there is a mirror in the dining room, and there is nothing under the bed.

I am very fond of ladybugs, dragonflies, angels, and other symbols of luck and life and if not wearing my magic hat covered with pins mostly received from friends and family and get skunked, it is because I don't have my lucky hat. I like to think the pins from friends and family are fishing with me. If they aren't in my head, at least they are on my head.

There was an interim when the search for the next phase of life was not clear. Horoscopes and other helped me swing from branch to branch in a search of the next step as I waited for the next picture. The picture didn't have to be clear, it just needed to have some image. I am a wait as a waitress type of person and horoscopes and the like gave me something to concentrate on. Perhaps that is where you are.

We are about to embark on a time of dreams and meanings, Feng Shui, and good luck symbols. Are you with me?

There are quite a few old wives tales or superstitions centered around the cute little ladybug.

Here is a rundown on the different believes throughout history and even today on the ladybug.

The Norsk believed that the ladybug came to earth by lightning and was connected to the goddess of love and beauty.

Weather and Harvest:
In northern Germany, counting the spots on the backs of ladybugs would tell if they could sell their harvest. If the ladybug had less than seven spots that meant they would have a large harvest.

In England, seeing a ladybug meant they would have a good harvest.

The French believe that a ladybug in their vineyard is a sign of good weather.

Austrians would ask ladybugs for good weather.

Love, Marriage and Children:
In Sweden if a ladybug walks on a girl’s hand it signifies that it is measuring her hand for wedding gloves, which means she will be married soon.

In Central Europe if is on a girls hand and it crawls under her hand she will marry within the year.

If a ladybug lands on you and then flies away watch it carefully, the way it flies is the direction of your true love.

When a ladybug lands on a woman in Burgundy, she should count the dots to see how many children she will have.

Good Luck:
The country dwellers of England believe the spots on a ladybug stand for the months of happiness that are to come.

In Canada, is finding ladybugs in your garage, during the winter is a sign of good luck. If you pick up the ladybug and make a wish the way it flies is the direction in which the luck will come.

I am a lover of lady bugs. When Tom's grand daughter was here, she went about the house counting them. They are not the alive ones, it is pins, and other objects. Here at my desk, I have a wind up I got from Ryen and a mini jewelry box I got from Tom. My fishing hat has lady bugs on it.
Before retirement, I always wore a lady bug somewhere on my self. The residents would look and look to find it! One of the nurses gave me a great big one so the resident's could always find it.

I am a collector of charms, crystals, and angels. Wait, there is more. But that is a story for another day.

OLD WIVES TALE: How the skunk got its scent

This an a Native American Folk Tale

At one time, the skunk we know today was not a small creature; as a matter of fact, he was as large as a hill. For some reason he began to grow smaller instead of larger. This caused the skunk to worry since he did not have any idea how he would be able to hunt and kill prey in order to eat, since as he grew smaller his strength also began to diminish.

He kept trying to figure out what to do to increase his strength since he could not stop growing smaller. He decided to invent a strong hunting medicine that would give him the skill he needed no matter how small he became.

Then the skunk went on a quest to find all kinds of plants. Every type of plant that he could carry he took home with him. Once he was back home, he ground the plants into a fine powder and then created this strong medicine.

He then placed this medicine into a pouch and carried it with him everywhere he went. One day, he decided to try his medicine on the strongest and biggest thing he could find.

What he found was a large oak tree. He took out a small pinch of his medicine, mixed it with water, and drank it. The skunk then shot the large oak tree with his medicine, which was a very bad smelling odor. The oak tree shrank and died as if it had been burned. There was nothing left of the large tree but a pile of ashes. This is the same medicine pouch that the skunk carries with him today.

Better than tazors, don't you think?

OLD WIVES TALE Ringing/burning ears

If your ears are burning or ringing, there is an old wives tale that says that someone is talking about you.

This is one of those wives tales that has long been in existence, and will probably continue on as children grow and spread it some more. The wives tale gets more descriptive with some, as they believe you can tell if the person is saying good things about your, or bad. It’s said that when the left ear is burning or ringing good things are being said about you, if it’s the right then there are bad things being said.

This is an old wives tale that doesn’t have a definite origin, but many believe parents warning their children not to gossip, as those that would be gossiped about would surely know, thought it up. This is yet another old wives tale that seems to have no real relation to the burning or ringing of ears, but how do we know for sure?

Mother always used to say, "I bet their ears are burning!" She used it as if someone was not telling the truth. She would ask if my ears were burning, and I would feel them and say no. OF COURSE I said NO.

Seeing a new moon for the first time on a Monday will bring you good luck.

If the first time you, see a new moon is over your right shoulder it is a sign of having fun.

If you happen to be holding something, in both of your hands when you see the new moon for the first time you will never want for anything.

If you see a red moon, it is a sign of war. My grandfather said this, man there were a lot of wars somewhere.

Stare at a full moon closely and you will a boy and his bog burning bush.

Another rendition says to use a magnifying glass and look at the full moon and you will see a woman with a dog burning bush.

True or not, the only problem I have with a full moon is the fish feed when it is light and during a full moon the fishing is not as good. Of course, the cows may be laying down, too!

OLD WIVES TALE how to tell who you will marry

This is an old wives tale born in the back hills of Kentucky as far as can be told. The process must be done exactly as told and you will learn the initials of the person that you will marry. Not necessarily the first person, however, the initials represent the one that you will marry and stay with “until death you do part”. To learn the initials you will need:

2 people – (the one that desires the initials and another to help)
A King James version Bible
A pair of scissors
A Kleenex or soft cloth

Open the scissors partial and then wrap with the tissue. Place the scissors in the King James Bible at the beginning of the Book of Ruth. Each person then places their little finger in the each handle of the scissors, just using the tips of the little finger. The helper then states the first letter of the alphabet “A”. The person wishing to know whom she will marry recites“And Ruth said, Retreat me not to leave thee, or return from following after thee. Whither thou goest, I will go. Whiter thou lodgest, I will lodge. Thy people shall be my people and thy God my God.” Repeat this for each letter of the alphabet. When the helper says the first initial and the other one begins to repeat the quote, the scissors will fall from both fingers. This will be the first initial.

Repeat to find the last letter of the last name. Not too many people remember these initials throughout their lives to learn if this old wives tale is true, but there are quite a few that enjoy watching the scissors spin right off the fingers of the participants.

I have a friend in Texas who has been married six times. He must have cramps in his fingers from dropping the scissors.
